Poetic Connection

An intimate and transformative live performance event with poets, teachers, scholars, dancers and musicians: Aneken River, Avery Lavoie, Marie Hamilton, Liesje Smith, Sophia Hurwitz and Theo Krawczyk.

Witness the exploration of the poetic connection that happens when one poem initiates another, causing a shift to occur, resulting in community meaning making.

By experimenting with our co-emergent processes, our next performance/somatic experience at Being/Body, arises from an offering that becomes a new arising and leaves you touched and awed.

About the Performers:

Avery Lavoie (she/they) is a free spirit, poet, artist, daughter, friend, social scientist and sister. Avery feels most free when dancing, singing, creating and learning about the world. She is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with fellow beings on this Earth!

Harpist, Marie Hamilton and vocalist, Aneken River (they/them) combine forces in a never before seen duo. Having first met many years ago during an impromptu jam session at a magical gathering in Montreal, then again at a musical improv in a tree house in Vermont, this is their first time performing together with intention. The first piece is a song written by Aneken River and Forest Donaj-Keys called “Change Becoming.” The second piece lends hommage to the roots of Marie and Aneken’s collaboration ~ a deep dive into the present moment, an all new creation of improvised magic.

Sofia Hurwitz is a Poet Priestess, Singer, Actor, Writer, and Woman of the World.

She is highly invested in the intersection of poetics, theater, and activism, with an emphasis on embodying truth. She believes in the power of poetry to recreate language and create symbology that resonates at the deeper levels of cellular beings. Originally from New York City, and living in Vermont for 8 years, she is endlessly inspired by the connection between diverse bodies of expression and the biodynamic aspects of nature that show us the abundance that arises from a landscape of color, contrast, and breadth.

She grew up with Musical Theater at her doorstep, performing frequently, and writing as a form of survivalism. She is committed to expressing what it means to be Divine in an utterly human world, and all the complexities that arise from womanhood, depth, desire, and traversing the tunnels of Darkness. You can find her on instagram as @mymysticwild.

Liesje Smith (they/them) wants to share their piece, “The Production of Worthiness” until it feels complete,, letting it evolve and transform with time. It’s a way of tracking how the words that came from within keep guiding a direction forward. It’s about sending a message to the audience to find their inner freedom to express, that that is justifiable and essential for healing. It’s an ongoing radial discovery of fundamental principles that arose from the work of the soul.

Theo Krawczyk (they/them) is an actor and improviser and lives in Burlington. Usually their material is comedic, they say, “I can be serious too!” So I’ve decided to let them out of their box for tonight. They’re sharing a one-person show based on a true event.
