Being/Body WriteUp!
I’m no acrobat. I’m discovering more all the time that I have neurodivergent traits. It’s also known as ‘neuroqueer’. It’s excitement mixed with grief and of course, daunting to learn more about the vast divergence that is our human community and I’m interested in what that means for each of us at the individual scale.
The term dismantles the ludicrous but widely accepted concept of there being a ‘normal’ person, unfortunately reinforcing widespread cultural assumption of those being benchmarks to be evaluated by.
We have a choice about it and I’ve been learning that there’s more equality and accuracy in saying, a ‘neurotypical’ person instead.
I’m celebrating the unveiling of my unique differences to even myself, as a discovery that also guides me toward newly recognized strengths and skills I had not depended upon before and I act with more synchronicity.
This implies, for me, testimony toward human adaptability and growth through emergence. I’m shining and directing my artisitc impulsive flair toward the bring light of my current creation, Being/Body, by increasing its capacity to generate outreach, growth and possibility to serve.
That is what the next blog has more about.
And you can learn more from Nick Walker, for a full discussion from their book, “Neuroqueer Herisie”.
I’m also growing in dedication to the recognition of being a non-binary person. I know this because I feel in-between.
What’s that mean to you?
I ask because from the beginning of my bodywork career in Burlington in 2000, far before I had heard of terms like these, I’d wonder what makes me ‘me’. Despite the odds I’ve kept my somatic conversation going as I worked through my own life challanges, using my studies as a resource to my own transformation to what feels more true to me. And I made it to a somatic home in Burlington Vermont, a community to rest in for a while to work and create.
I’m ready to have some real good fun now!
How are things going?
Being/Body is a solo LLC. Me and the space along with a few distinct people who offer additional guidance, plus current clients and students. I gently gather my self and gain more perspective for the second half of the first year, and like many small businesses, I learned a lot as I had a go at it. We’re still in it and it all can’t happen fast enough without creating more of an opportunity for people to get involved now and directly in two simple and very helpful ways:
Either you can contribute money you’re willing to offer by going to this CONTRIBUTION PAGE.

Why join me in promoting Somatic Arts?
Being/Body offers a place dedicated to higher learning through the “somatic embodiments and the movement arts” lens as a clear, simple, nonacademic setting for trauma healing through personal sessions and small classes and gatherings.
Consider private sessions.
In sessions with me, you both receive and learn.
The learning is a sensorial rewiring, an unlearning, a relieving what has been forgotten, battered or somehow knocked a bit off center.
Learning somatically is also about daring to have a relational experience with your inner experience, your body’s awareness and with eachother. It’s dedicated to exploring movement research as a generative and multidynamic method for healing that touches on all levels of being alive.
Being/Body is dedicated to creating more access to that.
Why this Large Space?
We all flock to safe gathering spaces that are defined to produce an effect we’d like to consume with our time.
This room is dedicated to being warm and simple; filled with open space, high ceilings and natural light. It has an affective presence on its own and it’s there to receive you as you come. If you know what I mean-there can be something sensorial about a space which communicates a certain dialogue of wellness.
The studio is mostly wide open with a historic honey warm smooth pine floor and a few wooden pieces of furniture that holds plants along the three great windows. It overlooks an enbankment of trees that gaze softly back toward us, replenishing our sight like a gentle digital detox.
This particular room reminds me of an old college classroom hall, large enough for about 20 people in a circle, with grand high ceilings. It’s effect on me is curiosity, peace and wonder. Being/Body isn’t huge, but it has high ceilings. It’s cosmopolitain and peaceful.. It’s 600 sq. ft.
Being a dancer and spending many hours as a child in dance halls, I’m interested in the offered effect of this particular room. For me, having space for ourselves, with safe witnessing, to unpack what lingers deep within us can be, and often is, part of the discussion?
Offering
As grand as this may sound, you get to fill it in up your way. That is what’s grand about it. Your participation is acknowledged, addressed and replenishished using neurological attunement to presence, structural stability, consistency, conversation, movement, ambiance and effect.
Results?
Today, I’m going to say, ‘lasting consistency’. It’s fun to show up again for yourself and route yourself onward! It’s about tuning your intuitive resilience and feeling your body and mind be in harmonic resonance with planetary balance.
Whether you come for classes or private sessions, you can access a better internal view of yourself with greater inner peace in the world.
It’s really a conversation about Trust.
I trust that I am ready for you. Are you ready for me? Are you ready to loosen up on expectations and allow the soft, steady, sturdy, resting part of you play with presence; light, sound, and sight?. Are you ready to learn how to walk with flow and effortlessness and stand so you’re better supported by the earth and space around you? DO you want to learn more about being ready and willing to have a conversations or boundaries?
It’s your lens that you work with, as you are the one living within your body.
